Watershed Pages

About Watershed Pages. Because stock distributions and watershed processes differ so substantially across the vast NOPLE area, NOPLE has chosen to apply the prioritization process described in the SRFB Guide to Strategy Development to each individual watershed, based on the priority stock(s) that are present in that watershed, all as reflected in each respective Watershed Page (see listing of Watershed Pages to the right). Watershed Pages are designed to be regularly updated to reflect new information and adaptive management practices.

Watershed Pages serve several purposes. They

  • guide Watershed Stakeholders through the prioritization process described in the SRFB Guide to Strategy Development;
  • provide project sponsors with the information they need to apply for salmon-habitat recovery grants;
  • educate public regarding each watershed and the salmon stocks therein.

Watershed Page Template. Where no Watershed Page yet exists, Watershed Stakeholders start with the Watershed Page Template, which contains the following sections:

  • Paragraph A guides Watershed Stakeholders to the Documentation (Appendix E) to identify the most relevant and latest information available regarding the watershed and stocks.
  • Paragraph B guides Watershed Stakeholders through the prioritization process described in the SRFB Guide to Strategy Development. These steps include listing all stocks and their status in the watershed, determining the priority stock(s) in the watersheds, identifying watershed processes and habitat features that limit that priority stock, listing actions and areas that resolve those limitations, and identifying any relevant community issues.
  • Paragraphs C and D provide watershed-specific lists of funded recovery projects and ongoing monitoring efforts, respectively, and paragraph E may list any issues that are emerging which may require re-evaluation of the priorities identified in paragraph B.

With over 50 watersheds in the NOPLE area, developing and updating Watershed Pages is an ongoing process that was only initiated in 2005.
